President’s Corner

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS

MAKING AN IMPRESSION

I invite you to read the latest edition of “Eye on UVI” which captures just a few of the countless stories
that make UVI the extraordinary institution I have been blessed to lead for close to 15 years.

This edition’s cover story highlights our most recent construction project – the groundbreaking for a
new School of Nursing building on the St. Croix campus which will transform the future of healthcare
in the Virgin Islands for generations to come. There is a special delight to see buildings come to life
and serve the needs of our students, employees and the community.

We are so proud and inspired by the achievements of our students, alumni and faculty. The unique
stories of students like Jackeima Flemming and recent graduate Michael Bell as well as alumni Dr.
Fyama Wenner and Dale Morton remind us of the remarkable potential that exists within each of us
to achieve our dreams even against the odds.

It has been a blessing to travel with our students, employees, alumni and community members to
special places like Ghana and Egypt as part of our Passport to the World program that has covered
the globe during its existence. Our students have many opportunities for experiential learning both
near and far. From agricultural research activities at the Henry Farm on St. Croix to educational
exchange in Costa Rica, it’s important to feature these stories.

As I come closer to concluding my presidency, I am filled with gratitude and a sense of shared
achievement. Please join me in celebrating the wonderful successes shared within these pages and
the many more that we will achieve together in 2024.

David Hall, SJD
President
