Telling the story of this University is a wonderous
challenge. From humble beginnings, on small islands
between the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, a
dream was born to solve a problem. Providing an
institution of higher learning to create a workforce of
knowledgeable professionals in the United States
Virgin Islands was the goal. No longer would Virgin Islanders have to find resources for a select few to
realize their professional goals. In its 61 years in
existence the University of the Virgin Islands enhanced its program offerings from two-year degree programs in the 1960’s to now offering over 99 degrees, minors and certificates to include a Ph.D. in Creative Leadership for Innovation and Change. Our students,
faculty, staff and alumni have walked these campuses,
imagined the unimaginable, overcome daunting
challenges, laughed and played to create an
experience that is uniquely UVI.

In this edition of the Eye on UVI Magazine, themed
“Visions and Reflections” we will highlight just some of
our past achievements, celebrate our present and get
a glimpse of the foundations laid to achieve our future
goals.

Let’s take this moment to celebrate our collective
journeys at our Alma Mater by the Sea.
